I founded Accurate Records in 1987 to put out the first LP by my band, the Either/Orchestra, and we've done nine so far. The latest, Neo-Nodernism, has done very well on college and public radio, and like all of our releases is being treated very kindly by the jazz press.

Over the years Accurate has grown enormously, through my contacts with other musicians around the Boston and New York scenes, through musicians who have played in the Either/Orchestra, like John Medeski and Charlie Kohlhase, and because creative musicians from all over the world have heard that Accurate is a label which values good original music above all else.

We've putting out a strong batch in 2003, releases from ex-E/O trombonist Rusell Jewell (Brass Roots: Purple Cha Cha Heels), composer/guitarist Jeff Friedman (Slo & Lo), pianist Jacques Chanier (Quilt), Accurate veteran Ken Schaphorst (Indigenous Technology), Either/Orchestra bassist Rick McLaughlin (Study of Light).

Accurate began with jazz, but have also put out three CDs of soundtrack music of the Alloy Orchestra and the late Caleb Sampson, whose includes the soundtracks to the Erroll Morris films "Fast, Cheap & Out of Control" and "Mr. Death."

We've also been know to put out a rock recording now and then, beginning with the first Morphine album in 1992, and including two titles from the great Willie "Loco" Alexander: Persistence of Memory Orchestra and East Main Street Suite. Willie is a unique original, a singer/keyboardist/songwriter who started under the spell of Jack Kerouac, jazz and Jerry Lee Lewis, and has gone on from there in a thirty-five year career. His music truly defies categories, but that's what Accurate is here for. Another excellent album from a rock veteran is Asa Brebner's I Walk the Streets.

A recent rock title that I particularly like is Black Feather Wings from Bourbon Princess, a band featuring extremely talented singer/bassist Monique Ortiz, along with original Either/Orchestra and Morphine drummer Jerome Deupree. I like this band so well that I joined it!

We're also proud to carry titles from two jazz bands that are going strong on the jam-band circuit: the Jazz Mandolin Project and the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. Both of these groups have shown that new audiences are ready for challenging instrumental music if it's played with energy and commitment.
